‘They remind me’ – Jamie Carragher makes a brutal Liverpool comparison about Ralf Ragnick’s Manchester United

Jamie Carragher has made a brutal comparison between the current Manchester United team and the Liverpool team he played for under Roy Hodgson.

Ralf Rangnick took over the United job from Ole Gunnar Solskjær in December and has won four of his first seven matches.

But the performance has been less than convincing and they have lost four points in their last three league games against Newcastle United, Burnley and Wolves to leave themselves as number seven in the table.

And former Reds defender Carragher says Rangnicks United team reminds him of the Hodgson team during the former English manager’s short period of responsibility at Anfield.

“What may worry United fans now is when they see their team in the last few weeks, they remind me of Liverpool under Roy Hodgson,” he wrote in his column for Daily Telegraph .

“There’s nothing about them; no passion, no emotion; every match seems flat; they lack energy and fluidity; the players clearly do not enjoy their football.

“There is a highly respected football figure at the helm, but it has taken a few weeks to make it clear that Ralf Rangnick is not the right fit for that team and will not be on the sidelines at the start of next season.”

Rangnick agreed to take the manager’s job on a temporary basis until the end of this season and will then switch to a consulting role at Old Trafford.

Carragher’s recent comments, however, are a condemnatory accusation of how he feels United have gone back under the new management.

Wrote a year ago , Reds legend Solskjærs compared the Red Devils to Roy Evans’ Liverpool team in the 1990s or the 2013/14 campaign under Brendan Rodgers – teams with enough talent to win a league title but unable to cross the line .

Today, however, Carragher believes that both the coaching staff and the players are to blame for United’s poor performance, with Rangnick having already tried four formations as he appears to be implementing his well-known ‘re-pressing’ style.

“It can only be because the players are either unable or unwilling to follow his instructions,” he said as he spoke about why the Red Devils have not adapted to Rangnick’s methods.

“It curses them just as much as the coach who can not see a way to put his plan A into practice.

“His results have been good. However, the performance has been abysmal.

“If United play as they have been against the best teams in England and Europe, it will be a repeat of the matches against Liverpool and City earlier this season where they were relegated.”
