Thousands of people are employed by the City of Augusta and hold various positions within the community. While the Augusta Commission and Mayor represent some of the city’s top leaders, you may be surprised to learn that they aren’t the highest paid. So who is?
Here’s a look at the top 20 revenues for fiscal 2023, according to documents provided by Augusta:
1. Hamid Malik
Hameed Malik, Augusta’s director of engineering, has been awarded $205,581.70He started working for the city in 1997.

2. Takiyah Douse
Augusta Interim Administrator Takiyah Douse has been granted $201,571She began working for the city in 2008 and has since also served as director of the motor vehicle division and the central services department.
3. Wayne Brown
Augusta attorney Wayne Brown has obtained $191,500.51He started working for the city in 2008 and resigned from his position a few months ago.
4. Richard Slaby
Judge Richard Slaby obtained $179,390.20He served on the Richmond County State Court for 20 years before retiring with senior status in 2017. That status allows him to preside over Georgia state courts when called upon.
5. Patricia Booker
Judge Patricia Booker obtained $179,390.20She is another senior Georgia state court judge who previously served as a judge in Richmond County Court.
6. Richard Roundtree
Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree has obtained $176,500He was first elected sheriff in 2012. This is his last year as sheriff after losing the primary earlier this year.

7. Antonio Burden
Antonio Burden, Augusta Fire Chief and EMA Director, was awarded $174,332.28He has been heading the department since 2021.
8. David Watkins
Judge David Watkins obtained $174,127.20He served as a Richmond County State Court judge from 1997 to 2023.
9. Tameka Allen
Tameka Allen, Augusta’s chief information officer, has obtained $170,350.99She began working for the city in 1992 and has since also served as deputy administrator and interim administrator.
10. Nolan Martin
Augusta Judicial Court Administrator Nolan Martin has obtained $162,776.01He started working for Augusta in 2020.
11. Wes Byne
Augusta Utilities Director Frank “Wes” Byne has been awarded $154,000He started working for the city in 2003 and has since also served as director of engineering.
