The 10-year-old died in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest
A 10-year-old girl has died on a trip to Putney Leisure Center in south-west London after going into cardiac arrest.
Emergency services were called to the leisure center on Tuesday afternoon at 2.46pm to attend the pupil from Hotham Primary School.
After being given emergency first aid, she was taken to hospital where she died a short time later.
Officers are treating her death as unexplained and have said a forensic scene is in place to investigate the incident.
A school spokesman said: “Our entire school community has been left shocked, saddened and deeply upset at today’s tragic events involving a pupil from our school who has sadly passed away.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family as they come to terms with their loss and we will do all we can to support them and also our staff and all our pupils in the difficult days ahead.”
Putney Leisure Center has confirmed the girl had become unwell while visiting the center.
A spokeswoman for the leisure center added: “Unfortunately at the leisure center yesterday a girl became unwell. She was taken to hospital and we later found out she died. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time”
Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “A ten-year-old girl was reported to be in cardiac arrest. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and administered emergency first aid.
“The child was taken to hospital where she sadly died a short while later. Next of kin are being informed. The death is being treated as unexplained. A forensic scene is in place,” the statement added.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.38pm today (19 April) to report an incident at Putney Leisure Center.
“We sent a number of resources including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, two medics in fast response cars and an incident response officer.
“We treated a patient at the scene and took them as a priority to hospital.”
