Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken of his heartbreak after a man was shot dead near Liverpool FC’s training ground. Rikki Berry, 36, nicknamed ‘Nuggy’, was fatally shot in broad daylight on Quarryside Drive in Kirkby at around 6.35pm on Wednesday.
Mr Berry was taken to hospital but died a short time later. A 20-year-old man from Kirkby arrested on suspicion of murder has since been released on bail. Merseyside Police told the ECHO yesterday that four people had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and a vehicle had been seized by detectives investigating Mr Berry’s murder. All four people have ALSO been released on bail.
In an interview with our sister site The Mirror, West Derby-born right-back Trent said: “I think it’s heartbreaking to see this in the city of Liverpool and so many people feel the same way whenever it happens. The police and authorities do their best to try and help in these situations and our prayers go out to all the families who are affected by the violence.”

He said: “We’re trying to help people become better, to follow their own path. It’s in all of us that that happens. If you’re not given a chance, you risk wasting it and never reaching your full potential. We have to hope that people can have that chance, it’s about giving them those opportunities.”
