Tributes have been paid to a “lovely man” after a crash victim died when a car ploughed into two pedestrians. The crash happened near the Cask & Craft bar on Boldmere Road, near the junction with Redacre Road in Sutton Coldfield, at around 10.20pm on Thursday, July 25.
The victim died at the scene, while the second escaped without serious injuries. West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances and two paramedics to the scene, but a spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that he was beyond saving.”
Several flowers and messages were left at the scene of the accident in tribute to “Aiden.” One read: “Aiden/Boss. I’m going to miss you, buddy. I’m truly devastated. Rest in peace. Kristian.”

Another message read: “God bless you Aiden, may you rest in peace, love you Rachel, Sarina and families xxx.” Another message to the affected family read: “Our thoughts are with you. We are so shocked by the tragic loss of Aiden. Such a lovely man who will be missed by the Dolans.”
And a fourth message read: “Dear Vicky and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad and difficult time. With love from Oli, Becky, Jonathon, Gethin.” A final handwritten message read: “Rest in peace” and featured a hand-drawn heart.
The second pedestrian was treated by ambulance staff for minor injuries but did not want to go to hospital. He was given self-care advice and released. The driver of the car involved, a woman, was examined by medics but was uninjured and released at the scene.
A woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A West Midlands Police spokeswoman gave an update on Saturday (July 27), saying: “A 31-year-old woman has been released under investigation.”
Remains of police security tape were visible on one of the posts at the intersection of Redacre Road and Boldmere Road. A tree also appeared to have been grazed in the incident. The owner of the Cask & Craft bar was returning to his premises for the first time since the incident but declined to comment.
West Midlands Police said earlier: “As we continue our investigation, we are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam, CCTV or doorbell footage to come forward.
“You can do this by contacting our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) at sciu@westmidlands.police.uk or by calling 101 and quoting log 5400 of 25 July. You can also contact us via the live chat on our website.”
