Trump criticizes FBI Director Wray’s testimony that he was hit by ‘shrapnel’, not a bullet

Former President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform Thursday night to lash out at FBI Director Christopher Wray following his congressional hearing regarding the attempted assassination of Trump.

Wray testified that he was unsure whether it was a bullet that struck Trump in the ear as he attended an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

“I think with respect to former President Trump, it’s debatable whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear,” Wray said during Wednesday’s hearing.

Trump, who nominated Wray to be FBI director in 2017, lashed out at his former nominee after the hearing.

“FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively “uneventful” — False!” Trump wrote on his social media site.

“That’s why he knows nothing about the terrorists and other criminals pouring into our country at record levels. His only goal is to destroy the J6 Patriots, loot Mar-a-Lago, and save the radical left-wing lunatics, like those currently burning American flags in Washington and spray-painting our great national monuments – with no retribution.

“No, unfortunately it was a bullet that hit my ear, and it hit hard. There was no glass, no shrapnel. The hospital called it a ‘gunshot wound to the ear,’ and that’s what it was. No wonder the once-famous FBI has lost America’s trust!”

Trump was shot in the right ear at the rally and US Secret Service agents moved in to surround him, retrieve him from the stage and help him down the stairs and into a waiting vehicle.

The suspected shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was shot and killed by the Secret Service. Two other people were shot and wounded, and former firefighter Corey Comperatore died at the scene while protecting his family.

Trump was treated and released at a nearby hospital, then showed up at the Republican National Convention days later with a bandage over his ear.

Kimberly Cheatle, who was the Secret Service director at the time, faced calls to resign, but she has been adamant that she will not resign. After testifying before Congress this week, Cheatle resigned.

Wray now faces similar scrutiny, including from House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican.

“We’ve all seen the video, we’ve seen the analysis, we’ve heard from multiple sources from different angles that a bullet went through his ear. I’m not sure that matters much,” Johnson said during the hearing.

Johnson added that Wray “did not provide some of the information we expected.”

“There’s a lot of frustration and concern about the leadership of these agencies,” Johnson said.
