Former President Trump told supporters on Sunday that he was “safe and sound” after a second assassination attempt, this time in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump was on the fifth fairway at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon when U.S. Secret Service officers opened fire on a man, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, who was reportedly armed with a rifle.
Authorities said Routh allegedly pushed the barrel of his rifle through a chain-link fence about 300 to 500 yards from Trump.
Routh fled and was quickly apprehended.
TRUMP SAFE AFTER ‘GUNSHOT IN HIS AREA,’ CAMPAIGN SAYS
“There have been shots fired in my neighborhood, but before the rumors start to get out of hand, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND HEALTHY,” Trump wrote after the incident. “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER surrender! I will always love you for your support. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”
The Secret Services is working closely with authorities and investigating the situation, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has been notified.
This is the second assassination attempt against Trump, the first having taken place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
