The incidents in and around Medford, Somerville and Brookline are under investigation, police said.
Tufts police issued a warning to the campus community Tuesday, warning that there have been multiple reports of air pistols being fired at pedestrians in the area.
In a statement, the Tufts University Police Department said the incidents took place in Medford, Somerville and Brookline.
“Several individuals were approached while walking alongside a dark colored motor vehicle, possibly an older model Jeep, and were struck by an unknown object from the area of the vehicle and described as a BB gun,” police said.
The department said it is investigating these incidents in collaboration with other law enforcement partners. As the investigation continues, police urged people to be aware of their surroundings when walking, stay in well-lit and populated areas or walk with another person if possible.
“If you think someone is following you, try to get to a place where other people are present, like a store or restaurant,” police said. “Don’t be afraid to call for help.”
The department urges anyone with information about the air gun incidents to contact campus police at 617-627-3030 or 617-627-6911.
