Two men were killed when a pickup truck traveling the wrong way on the Henry Hudson Parkway crashed head-on into their car early Saturday, leaving one of the vehicles on fire, police said.
The driver of the van fled on foot, leaving his 22-year-old passenger behind, authorities said.
Two other cars were involved in the accident.
A video posted on Citizen shows one of the vehicles on fire as traffic is stopped.
The carnage began around 2:30 a.m. when the van ended up southbound in the northbound lane of the tree-lined Henry Hudson Parkway on Manhattan’s west side.
Moments later, the van crashed into an oncoming Dodge Challenger carrying the two victims, one aged 40 and the other 38.
Emergency responders took the 40-year-old man to Harlem Hospital and the 38-year-old man to Columbia University Irving/New York Presbyterian Medical Center, but neither could be saved. The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Two other cars were involved in the crash, but no other injuries were reported.
After the initial collision, the driver of the van managed to escape the wreckage and flee. His passenger remained at the scene and was questioned by police.
No arrests have been made.
The northbound lanes were closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
