Two infants injured in wildfire in Fork, Angeles National Forest, Southern California

Two infants required medical treatment due to smoke inhalation as a fast-moving brush fire in Southern California spread to 330 acres with zero percent containment, authorities said Saturday morning.

The brush fire started in the San Gabriel Mountains of northern Los Angeles County near East Fork and Glendora Mountain roads after 3 p.m. local time, according to Angeles National Forest officials, who named the spreading blaze the Fork Fire.

Highway 39 remains closed Saturday, authorities said. Firefighters used fire hoses on two sides of the blaze late Friday night.

Several families had to evacuate the area, which has several hiking trails, authorities said.

Authorities said two infants required medical treatment after being exposed to smoke during their escape.

The condition of the children and other evacuees is not known at this stage.

“Spread is rapid, winds are light and growth potential is high,” Angeles National Forest officials said.

Authorities added that there was no immediate threat to buildings in the area.
