Two people were injured in a shooting Saturday evening in the 2100 block of Peppertree Way, according to Antioch police.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 9 p.m.
“It was reported that at least one person, a 47-year-old man, was shot and injured. Police officers on scene provided first aid until paramedics arrived,” police said. The victim, aged 47, is currently in a stable but critical condition.
A second victim, a 20-year-old man, was also shot and arrived at a local hospital using his own transportation. He is in stable condition and is expected to survive. Police determined the two injuries were related.
Police are not releasing the identities of the victims and suspects at this time.
The shooting happened along the Sycamore Drive corridor north of the 4 Freeway, an area that authorities say has become a hotspot for gun violence in the East Bay suburbs.
Antioch officials are grappling with how to deal with the rise in gun violence in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, Mayor Lamar Thorpe requested $500,000 in funding to increase police presence, particularly along that corridor, where more than 22 shootings have been reported so far this year.
Anyone with information or tips regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Antioch Police Department Bureau of Investigation at 925-779-6884.
