Two teenage boys have been seriously injured after they were hit by a car near a college.

North Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were called to Yew Tree Lane, Harrogate, at around 8.45am on Thursday.

Police said the two 15-year-old boys, who are pupils at Rossett School, were injured when a car hit a wall outside nearby Ashville College. Their parents have been informed.

Pictures from the scene showed a black vehicle crashed through the wall.

Rossett School headteacher Peter Saunders said his staff were “shocked” when the incident happened and attended the scene. A small number of students witnessed the crash, he said.

He added: “Our primary concern at the moment is for the two students who are now being cared for by medical professionals.

“We send our very best wishes to the students and their families at this challenging time and we will continue to support any other students at the school who may have been affected.”

Officers said roads and paths had been closed while emergency crews dealt with the incident. Members of the public were asked to use alternative routes.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This will have been a distressing incident to witness, and we urge those who have been affected by the events to seek the necessary help if needed.”

Rhiannon Wilkinson, head of Ashville College, said staff from the college gave first aid to the boys and dealt with the scene until emergency services arrived.

She added: “We have written to our parents informing them of the incident, which happened on Yew Tree Lane as the children were making their way to school at around 8.45am. Our thoughts are with the pupils involved and their families.”
