The United States women’s basketball team held on to defeat France in the gold medal game on Sunday to close out the Paris Olympics, 67-66.
A’ja Wilson led the way with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Kahleah Copper’s strong attack gave the United States a three-point lead with 1:22 left and the Americans were able to make enough saves to prevent France from overcoming the deficit.
Kelsey Plum made two free throws to give the United States a four-point lead. But Gabby Williams made a three-pointer to cut France’s deficit to one. After Copper made two free throws, Williams had another chance to shoot. She made it, but it was on the line and it only counted for two points.
