United, Delta and American Airlines impose global grounding on all flights

American Airlines, United and Delta have asked the FAA for a global grounding of all flights, according to an FAA alert issued Friday morning.

The FAA is asking air traffic controllers to inform pilots in flight that airlines are currently experiencing communications issues.

During this time, in-flight flights will remain in the air, but no American, United or Delta flights will take off.

It’s unclear how widespread the problem is, but Melbourne Airport in Australia has also said it is “experiencing a global technology issue” that is impacting its check-in procedures.
