A group of masked motorcyclists were caught on camera doing donuts and wheelies around a traffic officer in a tourist area, and the police association says if the department were equipped with enough officers, motorcyclists would be held accountable for their actions.
Sanee Iqbal took the video at an intersection with Lombard Street on August 4.
The “crookedest street in the world,” as San Francisco Travel calls it, is one of the most famous sites in the Golden City.
“There were probably more than 15 bikers,” Iqbal told local television station KGO.
“The bikers are coming down the hill honking their horns. Later, that’s when I saw one, two, three bikers start circling the cop, doing wheelies and burning rubber.”
The videographer said the riders — some on dirt bikes, some on motorcycles and some on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) — were “definitely confronting” the San Francisco Police Department traffic officer, who was wearing a yellow vest while observing what was happening.
As tourists looked on in wonder, Iqbal said no additional police arrived and no one was arrested.
“They are nothing more than a bunch of thugs on bicycles,” the San Francisco Police Association said in a statement to KGO.
“They are deliberately endangering the lives and safety of innocent motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.”
The police union went on to state: “The problem with not having over 600 officers is that we don’t have enough officers to respond immediately and in sufficient numbers to safely contain a large group that is acting aggressively toward bystanders and responding officers. If we had the number of officers that we should have had, you would have seen a lot more of these thugs in handcuffs.”
As for the bikers, others told KGO they had been seen at other tourist sites wearing masks without helmets.
Neither the San Francisco Police Department nor the police union immediately responded to a request for information and comment from Fox News Digital.
