Voters are deeply skeptical about the health of American democracy

Nearly half of voters are skeptical that America’s experiment in self-governance will succeed, and 45 percent believe the nation’s democracy does not represent ordinary people well, according to a new New York Times/Siena College poll. In the United States, three-quarters of voters believe democracy is under threat, although their perceptions of the forces endangering it vary widely along partisan lines.
