West Ham United are reportedly looking to bring Manchester United defender Di’Shon Bernard to the London Stadium this summer.
According to The Mirror (April 17, page 71), the Hammers are interested in signing the 21-year-old who is currently impressing on loan at Hull City.
He is “highly-regarded” but the youngster is way down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
The Hammers scouts have made regular checks on him, and they are impressed with what they have seen.
David Moyes sees huge potential in Bernard and the Hammers can offer him first-team Premier League football next season, which should attract him.
Need for a defender
Bernard came up through the youth ranks just like Declan Rice, and he seems to be a fantastic young talent.
If Moyes thinks he is really good enough to play in the Premier League, then surely, he must be getting rave reviews about the youngster.
Signing a defender is a priority for the Hammers next season.
Angelo Ogbonna will stay for another season, but the club need to find a long-term replacement for him.
Likewise, Issa Diop has been linked with a move away, with French giants Lyon showing keen interest [L’Equipe].
With Craig Dawson not getting younger, the Hammers are lacking depth in that area. Bernard, if signed, could be seen as a player for the future, given his potential.
The Hammers should look to sign a defender who can make an instant impact for the first team next season.
