  • Think you can pass this Aerosmith quiz? Dream on.

With the announcement that legendary Boston-based rockers Aerosmith are dropping their touring schedule, we thought it would be a good time to take a look back at the city’s musical history, particularly the bands and solo artists who stand tallest in the region’s musical firmament.

But with so many artists to choose from, how do we choose? That’s where you come in: Based on your responses to the poll below, we’ll determine a Boston musical “Sweet Sixteen,” and from there, with your help, we’ll narrow down our selection until we’ve determined Boston’s most iconic artist.

Whether you’re a fan of Aerosmith, new wave icons The Cars, classic blues rockers J. Geils Band, disco diva Donna Summer, or R&B pop icons New Edition, we want to hear from you. (Or even if you love Marky Mark, whoever you are.)

Check back in a few weeks to see who made the Sweet Sixteen.
