Washington — Party leaders and rising stars Addressing Delegates in Chicago this week as Democratic National Convention starts, with speeches in honor President Biden’s mandate while celebrating a new name at the top of the ticket.
The party will rally around its new ticket this week, with renewed enthusiasm after Mr. Biden stepped down and Vice President Kamala Harris takes over as party leader. And a host of Democrats from across the country will address delegates over the course of four days before speeches by the new presidential and vice presidential candidates.
Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walzis expected to formally accept the vice presidential nomination on Wednesday night, while Harris will take the stage on Thursday to formally accept the presidential nomination.
Speakers at the 2024 Democratic National Convention
Three presidents, congressional leaders and other prominent party members are expected to speak at the convention this week as Democrats gear up for the November elections. While an official speaker schedule has not yet been released, convention officials and other sources familiar with the planning have confirmed a number of speakers will be appearing throughout the week. Who spoke at the 2020 Democratic National Convention?
The 2020 convention, which was held virtually Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, speeches were given by Barack and Michelle Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and some of Biden’s 2020 primary rivals, including Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Cory Booker of New Jersey. Prominent party leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Michael Schumer also spoke, as did rising stars like Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
