Widow of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt reveals plans for her vast land holdings

Teresa Earnhardt, widow of the late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, plans to turn 399 of her rural acres east of Mooresville into an industrial park, according to her rezoning request for the sprawling former agricultural property.

The Mooresville Technology Park would come up between Patterson Farm Road and Rustic Road near Cabarrus County. The park would be just off NC 3, also known as Dale Earnhardt Highway.

The acreage is 2 1/2 miles from Dale Earnhardt Inc., the longtime headquarters of Earnhardt racing on NC 3 in Mooresville.

Earnhardt, a Kannapolis native, died in a final-lap crash of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 18, 2001.

Years ago, when they renamed the state highway outside Earnhardt’s headquarters NC 3, state highway officials denied to the Charlotte Observer that it had anything to do with the famous Earnhardt’s car number.

Teresa Earnhardt is expected to request the rezoning at the Mooresville Planning Board meeting on Oct. 22, according to the meeting agenda.

Earnhardt Farms LLC is listed as the owner of the property. Teresa Earnhardt is the sole managing member of the LLC, according to NC Secretary of State records.

The Planning Board is an advisory committee that makes recommendations on rezoning applications to the Mooresville Board of Commissioners, which has the final say. No date is scheduled for commissioners to review the application
