A Wisconsin man has been accused of throwing an eight-month-old baby against the wall because he was frustrated over losing a basketball video game.
Jalin White, 20, was arrested in Milwaukee last Thursday and charged with child abuse and neglect, according to jail records.
According to local television station WISN, White was taken into custody after the boy’s mother found him seriously injured in his park and took him to hospital.
Prosecutors said during a court hearing Saturday that White gave conflicting and implausible explanations for the boy’s condition, until finally admitting to throwing him against the wall.
“This is a serious level of violence for an innocent infant,” prosecutor Madeline Witte said.
The child is not expected to survive. According to legal documents consulted by Law and crimeWhite was caring for the child last Tuesday in a room he shares with the child’s mother, which they rent from his parents.
The child, named “JW” in the documents, was apparently doing well when his mother returned home from work. But after leaving the house to go shopping, she reportedly found JW barely breathing and his right arm “shaking.”
The documents allege the mother took JW to the hospital, despite White’s “angry” questioning, where she was told he suffered a fractured skull, six broken ribs and a broken collarbone.
White allegedly claimed that JW was injured when his mother hit her head on a door frame; then he fell while they were changing his diaper; then that White himself had let JW down while playing video games.
Finally, according to the documents, White admitted that he hurt JW himself because he was angry that he was two points behind in the video game NBA2K.
According to WISN, White became emotional as the details were recounted in court, shaking his head and crying.
