A Kentucky woman was arrested this week after police discovered a body in her mother’s backyard and other human remains cooking in her oven.
A worker at a property in Mount Olivet, about 50 miles southeast of Cincinnati, contacted authorities Wednesday after discovering a body in the yard, according to Kentucky State Police.
Officers arriving on scene found the dismembered remains in the grass, next to a bloody mattress and bloodstains on the back porch and back door sill, as detailed in the arrest report .
Police obtained a search warrant for the home and called in a special response team after Torilena May Fields, 32, who was inside the home, refused to come out, police say of state. Authorities used gas and communicated with Fields via a robot, leading to his surrender later that night without further incident. Fields had blood on his face, hands and clothing, according to the arrest report.
Fields was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and obstructing government operations, with additional charges possible, according to a state police news release. It was unclear Friday whether she had legal representation, as court records do not yet list an attorney for her. Fields is expected to be arraigned next week.
During the search of the house, police discovered a steel pot containing human remains in the oven and, according to the arrest report, the pot “was still hot to the touch.”
The man who reported the incident told police he saw Torilena Fields and her mother, Trudy Fields, the homeowner, during a visit to the home Tuesday evening. He noted that no one else was present. Before leaving, he said Torilena Fields became “confrontational” and was “casting spells at them,” according to the subpoena, which also said she may have been under the influence of drugs.
When the man discovered the body, he initially thought it was that of Trudy Fields, noting that he found a “pile of hair,” according to the arrest report. Police later confirmed in the citation that the victim was indeed Torilena Fields’ mother.
Speaking with Fox 56 News, Kentucky State Police Trooper David Jones said, “it’s going to be a long night for our guys.”
Jones further spoke about police being in the early stages of the investigation, WDRB reported, saying, “We are currently conducting a death investigation. We are in the early stages of that investigation.”
