Miroslava was a Mexican film star who tragically committed suicide after getting her heart broken
She was born Miroslava Stanclová on February 26, 1926 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Sadly her father died when she was a child. During World War 2 she and her Jewish family were interred in a concentration camp for a brief time. When they were released they fled to Mexico. At the age of fifteen she was sent to boarding school in New York City. Miroslava fell in love with an American soldier who was tragically killed. She was so upset that she attempted suicide. After winning a beauty contest she decided to study acting in Los Angeles. In 1945 she married actor Jesus Obregón. They divorced a year later when she discovered he was gay. Miroslava made her film debut in the 1946 Mexican drama The Tragic Wedding. She appeared in more than thirty movies including Nocturne of Love, La casa chica, and Streetwalker. The sultry blonde quickly became one the most popular actresses in Mexico. Then she went to Hollywood to appear in the 1948 film Adventures of Casanova. Miroslava costarred with Mel Ferrer in The Brave Bulls and appeared on the cover of Life magazine.
She enjoyed romances with actors Arturo de Cardova and Steve Cochran. The bi-sexual beauty also had a passionate affair with actress Ninón Sevilla. Unfortunately she suffered from severe depression and a nerve disorder which led her to be hospitalized. In 1954 she went to Spain where she fell madly in love with bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín. Later that year she returned to Mexico to make the drama The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz. After she finished filming the movie Luis broke up with her. Miroslava was devastated when he married another woman just weeks after their break-up. Tragically on March 9, 1955 she committed suicide by swallowing poison. When her body was found she was holding a photo of Luis and a farewell letter from him. She was only twenty-nine years old. Miroslava was buried at the Panteón Francés de San Joaquín in Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico. The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz was released after her death and became the biggest hit of her career.
